Canada Loyal Construction owner, Matt Wheeler, developed a love of working with wood at an early age. In high school, he took as many classes as possible to help him develop the skills of a carpenter. By the time Matt graduated from Grade 12, he had successfully completed many assignments, including a fine oak china cabinet that he crafted as his final school project.
At the age of 15, Matt began working with a commercial construction company during breaks in the school year, eager to begin training for a career as a professional carpenter. After high school, he secured an apprenticeship through BCIT’s four-year carpentry program. Upon completion, Matt became a certified journeyman, having gained additional carpentry skills from stair construction to finishing to hand-cut roofs.
Matt continued to work with the same employer he started with at 15, engaged in office and warehouse renovations, and new lilt-up construction in all classes and price ranges. In 2001, he received the Red Seal for his Certificate of Qualification, which is the inter-provincial standard of excellence in the skilled trades.
In 2006, Matt formed Canada Loyal Construction to take on more challenging projects. Always wanting to improve his knowledge and skills, it is Matt’s goal to become a Master Carpenter.
